Founded in 1868 by American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones, the International Watch Company—better known today as IWC Schaffhausen—was born from a unique vision: to combine American industrial know-how with Swiss craftsmanship. He set up shop in the eastern part of Switzerland, in Schaffhausen, far from the traditional Swiss watchmaking hubs. It was a bold move—yet a successful one.IWC soon became known for precision engineering and rugged elegance. Over the decades, they developed timepieces for aviation, diving, and daily wear, always prioritizing functionality and design. In the 1930s and ‘40s, their Big Pilot and Mark series helped define the pilot’s watch genre—simple, legible, and built for function.Today, IWC is widely respected for its in-house movements and robust collections like the Portugieser, Pilot, Ingenieur, and Aquatimer. IWC also places great emphasis on sustainability and responsible production, marking a modern chapter in its long-standing legacy.Whether it's on the wrist of a fighter pilot, a deep-sea diver, or a style-conscious professional, an IWC watch represents engineering excellence with a distinct character. It’s a tool, a statement, and a tradition—refined over more than 150 years.
